INTRODUCTION

The Improvement Association of East Arkansas presents a video and audio biography of the lives of African Americans in Lee County or those who have roots in Lee County. These are stories of strength, struggle, leadership and perseverance. They are also stories that may not be considered as positive, but remain a part of History. Our History is not always positive, but it shapes our lives and oftentimes brings about dramatic positive change.

The idea to develop such stories was the brainchild of Clifton Collier. Collier is a graduate of Tennessee State University with a Bachelors of Science in History and Masters from the University of Ohio in History. Along with his friend and former Tennessee State University Alumni, Andrea Hope Howard, they organized the Improvement Association of East Arkansas which is a non profit organization (IAEA)

IAEA received a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council to assist in developing its Oral History project entitled, "Lee County Meets The World". It is this grant that has provided the seed money for developing our project here on this website.
